The ache in her bones hadn't fully subsided since the long week. Sleep had been a series of fragmented dreams, filled with half-formed projects and unanswered emails. She woke up with a feeling of dread, a constant, low-level thrum of anxiety that vibrated through her. The prospect of facing another day felt insurmountable.

She was meant to drive to the grocery store.

She pushed open the front door. The empty space where her car belonged seemed to amplify the silence. Her shoulders slumped. Her breathing became shallow. It was too much, this was all just too much.
